The really good snacks.

Don’t expect the person who might be suffering to reach out for help.

Don’t expect them to call.

Even though you told them to call.

Even though they said they would call.

Swoop in to check up on the person who might is suffering.

Be mindful of their privacy. Be respectful of their boundaries. Be responsive to their preferences.

But let them know you are there.

Offer your shoulder, your time, your attention.

Your company, your dog.

Your blanket, your sofa, your snacks.

Say that you’ll check in later if they say not now.

Then check in later.

And remember to bring the really good snacks.
